How We Met

They had just finished their freshman year of high school, when Riley met a boy in Ryan’s friend group, Sam. It wasn’t long until Riley was introduced to Sam’s friends - a 14 boy friend group who was known by the name “BRUCK”. In the beginning, it took some time for Riley to understand the difference between girl friend groups & guy friend groups. It seemed easy at first, since her female friends were very similar to BRUCK: humorous, kind, and bonded over adventures & causing trouble. The only difference? Having a filter … which BRUCK had none. All of the guys would make jabs at each other's outfits, grades, athletic ability, etc. while Riley would always respond with a “Hey now, be nice!” or “*GASP* apologize!!”, which appointed her as the “mom” of the group. She embraced that role immediately, since Riley was born with a nurturing heart & soul. The boys embraced the fact that someone would always have their backs … Ryan, however, thought this was too easy and for the first time ever, Riley was served a jab. She didn’t know how to handle this, as she wasn’t prepared to strike back, so her attempt to shut Ryan down only fueled his next few comments, resulting in the beginning of Ryan and Riley’s relationship of absolute hatred for each other. Isn't that adorable? This continued for a while, until Riley pursued an emotional rant to Sam about comments made to her. She was faced with a realization that would resonate with her for the rest of her life, after Sam looked at her and said, “Ri…if you want to be a part of the boys, you have to develop thick skin & understand that this is how we play. You can’t let what anyone says change how you feel about who you are, it will make you the easiest target.” Fast forward 5 years, Ryan and Riley continue to help each other grow stronger as individuals through adventures, love, and lots and lots of tormenting. Thus, creating a protective, honest, caring Marine, and an intelligent, thoughtful, tough princess…who always have each other's back.
